Humberto Hernández Martínez (a.k.a. “El Negro”)

Humberto Hernández Martínez is a Cuban painter whose work is rooted in the landscapes and textures of his native Pinar del Río region. His education in fine arts and his enduring connection to nature and rural life in Cuba inform his visual language. His paintings—mostly oil on canvas—explore themes of environment, weather, memory, and atmosphere. His participation in exhibitions both within Cuba and abroad marks him as a prominent figure in contemporary Cuban art.

Training: Provincial School of Art, Pinar del Río (c. 1973–75); National School of Plastic Arts, Havana (1975–1980); Higher Teaching Institute of Pinar del Río (1986–1991).

Affiliations: Member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
