Alfredo Coello Arzuaga is an emerging Cuban artist whose work moves between drawing, painting, and conceptual art. He is currently studying at the University of the Arts (ISA) in Havana and previously received classical training in drawing and painting in the studio of renowned Cuban artist Arturo Montoto.
His work has been presented in major galleries and international art fairs in Havana, Zurich, Madrid, and Barcelona. He has also participated in several editions of the Havana Biennial. In 2017, he received Second Prize at the Post-it 4 competition for his work Fe.
Coello explores the boundaries between memory, atmosphere and landscape through a technique rarely encountered in contemporary Cuban art. Working primarily with graphite and sanguine on large-scale canvas, he transforms traditional drawing media into an immersive visual language that blurs the line between representation and emotional experience.
His works are not depictions of specific places, but rather psychological landscapes where light, silence and absence become central elements of the composition. Through subtle tonal variations and an exceptional command of depth, Coello creates environments that invite contemplation and introspection.
Rooted in a profound observation of nature, his practice reflects on themes of memory, permanence and the passage of time. Forests, paths and distant horizons emerge as metaphors for
personal journeys, offering viewers a space for reflection beyond the visible image.
