Yasser Curbelo

*1982, Pinar del Río, Cuba

Yasser Curbelo is a contemporary Cuban artist known for creating symbolic worlds through powerful paintings, prints, and graphic works. Moving between reality and dream, his art explores
themes of identity, transformation, and the landscapes of the inner self. Today, he is recognized as one of the notable voices in contemporary Cuban art and is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). He lives and works in Pinar del Río.

After graduating from the Escuela Profesional de Artes Plásticas Carlos Hidalgo Díaz in 2006, Curbelo devoted himself to printmaking and illustration. His artistic practice combines technical
precision with a rich symbolic language, creating works that invite reflection on the human condition, memory, and personal transformation. His visual universe is populated by enigmatic figures and imagined narratives that blur the boundaries between the real and the surreal.

Yasser Curbelo Rego constructs intricate visual worlds where imagination, symbolism and cultural memory intertwine. His paintings transcend conventional narrative, inviting viewers into layered realities populated by hybrid figures, mythical references and surreal encounters that challenge the boundaries between the real and the imagined.

At the heart of his practice lies a fascination with the complexity of human thought and the power of storytelling. Drawing from literature, history, philosophy and personal reflection, Curbelo creates compositions that unfold gradually, revealing multiple interpretations through carefully orchestrated symbols and visual associations.

His work is distinguished by an extraordinary attention to detail and a remarkable ability to balance technical discipline with creative freedom. Figures, animals and symbolic objects coexist within dynamic environments that appear both familiar and enigmatic, encouraging sustained observation and intellectual engagement.

Rather than offering definitive answers, Curbelo’s paintings function as open narratives. They invite the viewer to participate actively in the construction of meaning, exploring themes such as identity, desire, transformation and the relationship between reality and fantasy. Each work becomes a space where imagination serves as a tool for understanding the complexities of contemporary existence.

Combining refined craftsmanship with a rich conceptual foundation, Yasser Curbelo has developed a distinctive artistic language that resonates with collectors seeking works of both visual
sophistication and enduring intellectual depth.

His paintings reward time, curiosity and contemplation, revealing new connections and meanings with every encounter.
